MIKE Grella is desperate to feature against one of his former clubs tomorrow to show Brentford boss Uwe Rosler he is ready for regular action.

The former Leeds United striker had a spell on loan at Carlisle United last season, and the Bees made the long trip to Brunton Park tomorrow.

Grella has had to make do with bit part appearances off the bench since joining Brentford in August, with question marks against his match fitness.

But the American, who came on as a sub once more in Wednesday night's JPT win at Charlton, insists he is fit and raring to go.

He said: “I am 100 per cent fit now. I'm not sending out a message to the gaffer or anything like that, as he will decide what is best for the team, but I am ready for action whenever he needs me.

“Of course it has been frustrating not playing more, but we have a good squad with some really good strikers here who have been doing their job, so I cannot complain.”

Tomorrow's game will be the first time Brentford have played Carlisle since the Cumbrians beat them in the Johnstone's Paints Trophy final at Wembley last April.

Grella played his part for Carlisle in a successful loan spell last term, but he will be hoping to fire his old pals down tomorrow.

He added: “Carlisle have a good squad, and Greg Abbott is a good young manager who gets them playing as a team, so they won't make it easy for us up there – and hopefully I will get the chance to feature.

“Obviously I had left Carlisle by the time they reached Wembley, but a lot of their players from the final are still there, as are a lot of the guys here, so I imagine a few of our lads will be out to put things right.”

Grella was part of the Leeds side who won promotion from League One two years ago under Simon Grayson.

And he believes the squad Rosler has put together as Brentford is not too far off being able to emulate his old pals from Elland Road.

He added: “The key we found to getting promoted was winning as many home games as possible and picking up what you could away from home.

“I guess we've got half of that right at the moment, as our away form is excellent, and if we start picking up some wins at home too we won't be far off. We have a good squad here, and one which should be up there challenging.”
