AFC Wimbledon hopeful Rhys Weston did his chances of landing a deal at Kingsmeadow no harm with a goalscoring cameo in Saturday's pre-season friendly draw at Dartford.

The former Arsenal and Cardiff City defender put the Dons 2-0 up after Jim Fenlon had given them the lead, only to be pegged back late on.

Weston, 32, is hoping to earn a contract in England after spells in Iceland and Malaysia.

And boss Neal Ardley has refused to rule out adding the ex-Wales international to his squad.

He said: “Coxy and I know Rhys from our Cardiff days.

“He's good friends with one of our sponsors and we got asked if we would have him in to have a look. I was happy for him to join in training because I know what a great lad he is.

“We have a chance to have a look at him at centre-back – he can play anywhere in defence.

“We'll see how well he does. It could put him in the shop window for somebody else.

“At the moment I'm still keen to go with three centre-backs. If there was something that could be done at a very low cost and he deserved something then we'll see.”
