UXBRIDGE boss Tony Choules admits his side showed the effects of two gruelling cup ties with Canvey Island in Saturday’s home defeat to Barton Rovers.

The Reds played two FA Trophy matches against the Ryman Premier in three days prior to this weekend’s league disappointing league encounter at Honeycroft.

Aaron Lansiquot struck midway through the second period on Saturday and Choules believes the Trophy adventure had caught up with his jaded squad.

“I wasn’t surprised,” said Choules in the wake of the Barton loss. “We had two titanic games with Canvey Island and that took more out of us than I thought they would. We put a huge amount of effort into those two games, particularly the Tuesday night game where we had to travel there.

“The frustrating thing is that we dominated the game on Saturday. We had a number of chances and we didn’t put them away. They probably had five chances in the whole game and they’ve put one of them away.”

Despite the defeat and Uxbridge’s league position, Choules is not worried and is confident his men can turn it around to mount a promotion push.

“I’m not concerned,” he said. “We’ve only played just over 10 games. Yes it could be better, and we as a team are a bit disappointed we’ve not done better, but we’ve got to kick on now. There’s no heads down or major concerns though.”
