Laura Turner says she has been relaxing as much as possible in the build up to the Women's 100m at the Beijing Olympics on Saturday (16).
The Harrow born and bred athlete celebrated her 26th birthday on Wednesday and, in and around her training, has been living a life of luxury since arriving in the Far East.
The Harrow AC sprinter said: "Our time in the holding camp was amazing. We stayed in a five star hotel which had been specially adapted for us.
"There was a massive food court with menus designed by our nutritionists, games rooms, pool tables, table football and internet rooms. We had a typhoon one day and were confined to the hotel.
"We arrived in Beijing yesterday afternoon and at the Olympic Village I was greeted with a big bunch of flowers for my birthday, I had a fantastic birthday."
Turner, who is sharing an apartment with world 400m silver medallist Nicola Sanders, says the reality of being at her first ever Olympics finally hit home when her parents presented her with a poignant gift.
She said: "I'm racing on Saturday so I haven't been doing too much, I'm just getting myself ready for the big day.
"My parents bought me an Olympic rings necklace for my birthday. I always said I wanted one if I went to the Olympics, never thinking I'd actually make it here."
