FRONTRUNNER  Gary Johnson has confirmed his interest in the vacant manager's job at Griffin Park – but denies reports that he's been approached by the club.

The 55-year-old west Londoner has been out of work for less than a month since leaving League One rivals Peterborough United after falling out with Posh chairman Darragh McAnthony.

Speculation surfaced this afternoon that the Bees had been in contact with the former Yeovil and Bristol City boss.

But Johnson, who has also taken charge of the Latvian national team, insists he's heard nothing from the club.

However, the Hammersmith-born chief, who had a trial at Brentford as a 20-year-old in the 1970s, would be willing to listen to offers.

He said: "I've had no contact – the manager's just gone.

"I'm keen to start working on a new project, and it's a job I would be very interested in.

"Location-wise it's perfect as my family still live in the west London area."

Johnson has several ties to the Bees. He was close to signing for the club under John Docherty, only to move to Sweden instead.

His brother, Steve, was an apprentice with the Bees, while cousin Robbie, donned the famous red and white stripes briefly in the early 1980s.
