CROSS COUNTRY: A change of tactics brought Eve Goodhart a great win in her U11 race for Thames Valley Harriers in the North West London Athletes League at Alexandra Park.

She had lost out in her two previous races, but decided to kick for home 300m from the finish this time rather than leave it late and she stormed home by four seconds in her race in 4.57.

Next home, Annabel Morgan was slightly down on match one, but her 11th place in 5.42 was also a good run.

Marie Bennett-Henry finished 18th in 5.55 and suggested she will improve further with experience.

Jude Lewis' 25th place in 6.08 was a bit cautious and she had some running still in her at the finish. There were 29 girls in the race.

In the U13 girls' race, Aneta Jaskulska finished seventh in 13.52. At one time she was fifth but lost some places in the second half of the race.

Sophia Acquistapace, running on her birthday in her first cross country race, acquitted herself well to finish 15th in 14.30.

Not only did Sasha Tory win her U15 race, she also beat all the U17s who were running at the same time. She recorded 18.16 for the 4,500m course.

Once again the TVH U11 boys won their team race. They were led home by their youngest runner, Sebastian Ekperigin in fifth position (5.07).

He changed his footwear for the race which gave him a better grip. Also benefiting from wearing spikes, Joe Cooper stormed through to sixth place in 5.09. Just losing out to the other two, Alex Hampshire was seventh in 5.14.

The short race of 1,400m did not suit Matthew Piercy, who was 16th in 5.26 or Samuel Bernard, 20th in 5.37. Even so, they did well in a field of 30 runners.

Rivalry with Ealing has always been an incentive for Harriers athletes to be competitive and this season, Duncan Pinder from Ealing and Archie St Aubyn from Harriers seem to be tied together.

St Aubyn won the first race by two seconds, Pinder the second by the same margin, with St Aubyn the third by just one second.

St Aubyn was fourth in 11.28 at Alexandra Park. Oliver Berg was also in the leading pack and finished eighth in 11.42.

Jamie Edwards ran steadily to finish 13th in 12.14 and Samuel Cooper was 21st in 12.48.

In the U15 boys' race, Kyle Kenrick made a determined effort and finished 13th in 19.08. At the back of the field, Coslee Searles and Nabil Toumi ran together before Searles finished faster to get 17th place in 21.20 to Toumi's 18th in 21.25.
