FARID El Alagui might have been missing his special coin – but the striker was quids in for Brentford last night.

The Moroccan marksman came off the bench to bag a brace as the Bees booked their place in the second round of the Capital One Cup with a 3-2 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge.

However, the former Falkirk frontman admits he was fired up after kitman Bob Oteng forgot his good luck charm – a one-pound coin.

El Alagui didn't flip out, and instead fired Uwe Rosler's side through to set up a potentially money-spinning tie with one of the Premier League big boys.

He said: “The kitman, Bob, left the coin locked somewhere, which made me angry before I came on!

“He said it was in a safe place, but it wasn't Griffin Park.

“This is the first I haven't had it. Maybe it's a bit of psychology on his part – and it worked!”

El Alagui's double was his first goals for the club since suffering a serious knee injury against Crawley last October, which kept him out for six months.

However, the 28-year-old was back at Griffin Park and on the scoresheet as his injury-time header saw Brentford through.

He added: “It's been a long road for me, so to come on, score two goals and help the team is a perfect night for me.

“I feel on top of my world. I'm very happy and have to give credit to the medical staff and all the backroom team.”
