Dad was more than a bit pleased when son lifted the equivalent of an Olympic shot putter above his head.

It meant Kian Panjavi from Ealing is headed to the European Youth and Commonwealth Youth Games later in the year as a result of the teenager’s 98kg snatch and 122kg clean and jerk to win the British Youth Championships in Glasgow recently.

His coach-dad Kazem wasn’t done there.

The man who runs the Stars for the Future club in four west London boroughs and soon to start another in Hammersmith, had further delight when Alysia Ekpiken from Hounslow also topped the podium.

On its way: Panjavi nearly there

In fact, she just missed 67kg, which could have been a British youth record for 69-plus kilos. She did, however, hoist a personal best 73kg clean and jerk.

Winners: Panjavi flanked by Alysia Ekpiken and Rosie Harding

The third gold for Panjavi snr and Stars went to Rosie Hardie from Reading.

Next stop is Sweden on August 2 for all three and the Euro Youths with a Commonwealth tilt and a 10,000-mile journey to Samoa in September.
