EALING Golf Club's England Junior, Pavan Sagoo and former member Yasin Ali are just one step away from playing in this year's Open Championship at Muirfield.

Both qualified by finishing high in a strong field at this week’s Open Regional Qualifier at the Buckinghamshire Golf Club with Pavan coming second behind Tour player Zane Scotland with a 3 under par 69 and Yasin not far behind with 71.

Both will now play in Final Open Qualifiers in Scotland on Monday for a chance to book a place in the showpiece tournament.

Former Ealing prodigy Ali joined the professional ranks and is enjoying a successful career based out of Dubai.

Pavan, 17, hopes to match or better Ealing director of golf Ricky Willison’s achievement of winning the Amateur Bronze Medal in the 1987 Open Championship, also coincidentally held at Muirfield.

Willison said everyone at Ealing Golf Club will be rooting for them next week and added: "A few years ago, Ealing Golf Club was constantly making news because of the success of their members. On one occasion we had three members play in consecutive Open Championships. I see those days returning, with the exploits of young Aadam Syed [another of the club's top young players] and now Pav and Yas."
