NATIONAL SUPER 8 HANDBALL LEAGUE: Liverpool 23   Ruislip Eagles 27

RUISLIP Eagles coach Amer Altimimi says Sunday’s victory over Liverpool sets them up perfectly for this weekend’s showdown with table-topping London GD.

Eagles recorded a 27-23 away win against the Merseysiders and they now head into Saturday’s clash with the league-leading East Londoners on a real high.

Altimimi said: “The victory was very important and we produced what was necessary to achieve this.

“The team looked pretty tired but still managed to show good phases. We can now turn our head to one of the biggest match of the season next weekend.”

Although it was a weekend of international handball, with Team GB playing Greece in a Euro qualifier games in Crystal Palace on Sunday, there was no break for the Ruislip as they made the long trip to Liverpool.

Eagles started the game with a new experimental defence that seemed to work well as they held a 15-11 lead going into the interval.

Liverpool always looked a threat on the counter attack, but Lucas Carstens and Denis Werner each scored five times to inspire the Eagles to a terrific win on the day.

Michael Vitello and Hadrien Pollino were not far behind with four, Marc Fayemi added three and Fredrik Charpentier (two), Bjoern Tessmann (two) and one each from Fabien Colette and Akos Weress were added to the scoresheet for victorious Ruislip.

The result means Ruislip continue their hot streak, having won all six of their fixtures since the turn of the year.
