A HARROW Weald schoolboy is on the verge of a dream move to the Premier League with Norwich City.

Jamie Cassell caught the eye of Canaries scouts as he skippered Harrow’s football team to a silver medal at the London Youth Games finals at the weekend,

The 14-year-old shot-stopper, who attends Salvatorian College, made a string of dazzling saves en-route to the final and showed incredible leadership qualities as he made the armband his own.

Cassell was approached by City after the tournament and has been invited to try out for the Carrow Road club, following in the footsteps of England keeper and Canaries number one John Ruddy.

Ruddy, who has been targeted by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea this summer, has made it all the way to the top and Cassell is hoping to tread a similar path.

“It was a really good event for us, and particularly me,” he said. “I play at district and county level for Middlesex but it’s great that I’ve been invited to Norwich for a training session, it’s the first time that I’ve been scouted.

“There’s a great atmosphere at the London Youth Games – it’s a lot better than most other tournaments that I play in, it’s probably the best I’ve played in. It was great to mix with loads of other sports as well.”

“I’m used to playing in Sunday league for St Joseph’s, so this has been great. I don’t know if I played that well in the final, it was a tough tournament and the heat didn’t help, it was really hot in the dome for most of our matches.

“But I’m glad we got a medal in the end, even if it wasn’t gold. I don’t really know what to expect at Norwich, I will have to wait and see.”
