DEAN Morgan's second half winner consigned AFC Wimbledon to a 1-0 defeat at Oxford United this evening.

There was a left off for AFC on 14 minutes when Dean Morgan failed to get proper connection on a dangerous cross from Scott Rendell across the face of goal, before Seb Brown had to come hurtling out of his goal to clear a back pass from Gareth Gwillim which fell short off Rendell's feet.

On the half hour mark, the referee ignored the protests of Sammy Moore who was seemingly brought down in the area, the ball going out for a corner instead which was cleared, while soon after a Sammy Moore centre was headed back across goal by Jack Midson, but Us keeper Ryan Clarke got here ahead of Luke Moore

Ten minutes before the break, AFC had Pim Balkestein to thank for a goal-line clearance from Oli Johnson whose follow-up effort was saved by Brown's feet, who then made a fine diving stop from Andy Chapman's belter of a free-kick from 35 yards out.

With half-time approaching, Rashid Youssef curled just wide for the visitors from outside the area, but the game remained goalless at the break.

Asa Hall came close to breaking the deadlock just minutes into the second half when his cracking half-volley from the edge of the area was clawed away by Brown as it headed for the top corner, but there was nothing he could do to keep out Morgan's shot at the near post, which beat the Dons keeper to give the hosts the lead on 56 minutes.

Straight down at the other end, George Moncur became the second Dons player to be denied a penalty when he went down in the area after Midson had skipped through a few challenges but was unable to find the space for a shot.

It could have been 2-0 on 70 minutes when a corner from the right found its way all the way through to Johnson lurking on the far edge of the area, whose header back across goal came back off the bar.

At the other end, Sammy Moore fired just over from the edge of the area,

At the other end, Sammy Moore fired just over from the edge of the area, while in injury time, Moncur's free-kick was well stopped by Clarke, and two follow ups desperately blocked.
