AFC Wimbledon skipper Jamie Stuart admits the club’s game-plan was left in tatters on Saturday as two first-half strikes condemned the Dons to defeat at Hereford.

Goals from Lyle Taylor and Tom Barkhiuzen had given the hosts a two-goal lead before the interval with Jack Midson’s second half-response failing to spark a fightback.

And the influential captain admits that the Dons’ inability to shut up shop in the early stages is the main reason behind their current run of form, which has seen them go six games without a win.

“It’s really frustrating. We concede early goals and that’s been the problem for us defensively,” said Stuart.

“We had a game plan. The full-backs were supposed to do their jobs on the wide men, me and Kingy [Mat Mitchel-King] to do a job on [Delroy] Facey and the midfield to match up.

“I thought, on a horrible pitch, we needed to battle and fight. They’re scrapping for their lives and it’s always going to be hard against teams like that and we couldn’t get the job done.”

The Dons will face fellow League Two strugglers Plymouth on Tuesday night at Kingsmeadow.
