AFC Wimbledon edged closer to the magical 50-point mark with victory over Morecambe this afternoon.

First-half goals from Kevin Sainte-Luce and leading marksman Jack Midson did the damage at Kingmeadow as the Dons moved seven points clear of the League Two drop zone.

Will Antwi pulled on the AFC Wimbledon shirt for the first time in more than two months as he replaced Kelly Youga in defence.

Midson and Rashid Yussuff also came in for Sammy Moore and Stacy Long in three changes made by Neal Ardley to the side that were thumped by Accrington in midweek.

It was a scrappy start on a boggy Kingsmeadow pitch and both sides struggled with the conditions early on, Morecambe's Andrew Fleming blazing wide with a good opportunity.

Jack Redshaw was next to go close as he sprung the offside trap but Alan Bennett did well to get back and produce a last-ditch tackle to keep the forward at bay.

Wimbledon hit back and grabbed the lead on 38 minutes when Gary Alexander got in behind the Morecambe backline and laid one a plate for Sainte-Luce to open the scoring from close range.

Moments later and Shrimps defender Robbie Threlfall was penalised for handball to present the Dons with an indirect free-kick on the edge of the edge of the six-yard box.

The Morecambe players camped on the goal-line and when the shot came in from Alexander, Chris McCready threw his hands up to block the goalbound effort.

Referee Gavin Ward pointed to the spot, although curiously kept his cards in his pocket, and Midson calmly stroked the ball into the bottom corner to double the advantage.

Ardley made one change at half-time as goalscorer Sainte-Luce made way for former Stevenage midfielder Long.

The Dons maintained their momentum into the second period and Antwi nearly marked his comeback with a goal as his header was cleared off the line by Fleming.

It was an uneventful second-half and that will of pleased Ardley as he watched his boys complete the job comfortably in the end to add another three points to their survival push.
