AFC Wimbledon are set to miss out on former Charlton Athletic defender Gary Doherty .

Dons boss Terry Brown is desperate to bolster his backline following the departures of Jamie Stuart, Brett Johnson and Fraser Franks last month.

The Chronicle revealed on Saturday that the 32-year-old centre-back was on Wimbledon's radar after being released by the Addicks following their promotion to the Championship.

But the Kingsmeadow club look unable to meet the experienced defender's wage demands.

Boss Brown said: “Gary Doherty's name's been around during our talks.

“But it's a question of wages. He's come from Charlton so he would've been on good money.”
