ALAN Bennett will wait until AFC Wimbledon guarantee League Two survival before opening talks about his future.

The former Reading and Brentford defender signed a short-term deal with the Dons at the beginning of February following his release from Cheltenham Town.

Bennett has helped Wimbledon to six wins in 12 games since his arrival at Kingsmeadow to put them on the verge of safety.

However, the Irishman has put his future on the backburner until their Football League status for next year is secured.

He said: “I will have to have a conversation with the manager once we're safe.

“I need to know what the club's plans are going forward and what's going on in the background.

“I don't want to be involved in another relegation battle. I've found it tough to sleep and it really has taken over my life.

“I find myself staring at the league table trying to work out how many points it will take to survive etc.

“This is real. When I was at Reading people were worried about cars, but here jobs are on the line.

“Everyone is worried about what will happen because this is a massive club, a sleeping giant in my eyes.

“The priority is to make sure we stay up and then that conversation will happen.”
