AFC WIMBLEDON fans can start getting excited after Terry Brown revealed he expects to announce significant signings next week.
The Dons boss is desperately short of numbers after showing 14 players the door as part of a major overhaul of the squad at Kingsmeadow.
Having freed up his budget by removing the deadwood, Brown is ready to start splashing the cash and is close to agreeing terms with a number of targets.
“I think we’ll be making one or two signings, significant signings, next week,” he said. “I’ve got meetings with players in the next seven days and I hope to tie some of those up.”
Brown has identified his defence, which conceded 78 goals in 46 games last season, as his main area for improvement.
Gareth Gwillim, Sam Hatton, Jamie Stuart, Chris Bush, Brett Johnson and Fraser Franks have all been given the boot as part of the Dons revamp.
“Defenders are my main priority,” added Brown. “That’s where I felt we weren’t good enough last year. I’d like to supplement the midfield as well and up front we’re okay.
“We’ve got the three forwards and I’d maybe like to get a young fourth one in at some stage.”
