CLAYTON Donaldson insists he is champing at the bit to shoot down Doncaster Rovers after sitting on the sidelines at Hartlepool.

Brentford's top scorer was serving a one-match suspension for collecting two yellows cards in last Tuesday's 2-2 draw at Sheffield United.

Donaldson was sorely missed as the Bees struggled to a 1-1 draw at already-relegated Hartlepool on Saturday, but is determined to make up for it against Doncaster.

He said: “It is not a nice feeling to be watching from the sidelines. They say you kick every ball from the stands and it was a bit like that, but the lads who were out there did well.

“It was definitely harsh to be suspended as I should never have got two yellows last week. For the first one I was clipped, and that's why I went down, but I was booked for a dive, and for the second I didn't touch their player, but was done for a foul.

“It's not the nicest thing when you are sent off having not done anything to deserve it. It's one of the worst things that can happen to you as a player.

“But all it's done is fire me up to put things right against Doncaster. It is a really big game for us, and we know what we have to do.

“The result at Hartlepool was disappointing, but it could have been worse and we are still in the mix – we thought it would need three points against Doncaster anyway.”

While Donaldson will be back in the fray on Saturday, centre-back Tony Craig will still be serving the second of his three-match ban for his straight red at Brammall Lane, having had his appeal rejected.

Donaldson added: “If I thought I had been hard done by, then Tony definitely has been, and we were all certain it would be overturned.

“But Harlee and Kev were superb for us. Harlee has been brilliant for us all season, and Kev stepped in like he's been playing there all his life.

“It won't be easy for them on Saturday either, but I'm confident they can keep Doncaster quiet, and hopefully I can take care of things at the other end of the pitch.”
