CLAYTON Donaldson admits more responsibility will fall on his shoulders now as Brentford's senior striker now Gary Alexander has departed.

Top scorer Alexander left on loan to Crawley until the end of the season last Thursday after the Sussex side promised the 32 year old the two year deal Brentford were reluctant to.

All of which means they will need Donaldson, who hit 28 goals for Crewe last season, but only five since joining the Bees last summer, to find his shooting boots more than ever.

He said: “It seems to be a strange one, you don't get that many players leaving at this stage of the season when a club is doing well. We just came in on Friday and were told Gaz had gone, and it took all of us by surprise really.

“He was always talking and leading from the front, so we will miss him, but we are not a one man team. I need to start staking my own claim, and I feel more responsibility already, but I'm always trying to put more responsibility in my game.”
