HE ADMITS he owes them one – but Ryan Dickson is determined to get one over on Brentford when he lines up against them on Saturday.

The former Bees full-back turned down a new deal at Griffin Park , eventually signing for Southampton in the summer for a fee which could rise to £250,000.

Dicko made more than 100 appearances for Brentford, scoring three goals, and helped them to the League Two title in 2009.

But he admits he was almost forced to retire from football altogether before his move to TW8 in January 2007.

He explained: "I had a problem with my back, which Plymouth failed to diagnose during my time there.

"I was out for two years and came close to calling it a day.

"But as soon as I came to Brentford they sorted it out straight away. [Former first-team physio] Dave Appanah took me to see a specialist, and he and Al Lane ran my rehab.

"I owe the manager and everyone at the club a lot."

Dicko had a slow start to life at St Mary's, spending much of his time warming the bench.

But he has now cemented a place in the first-team, and insists he has no regrets about leaving Griffin Park.

"This club is ran like a Premier League outfit," he said.

"The facilities are first class, and my move was because of my ambition.

"It had nothing to do with money. I believe this was in the best interests of my career."
