TWITTER newcomer Clint Dempsey said he would not be tempted to big himself up on the social networking site following his hat-trick blitz against Newcastle.

The Fulham striker (pictured) netted his second treble in successive home matches to take his tally for the season to 15 goals. But not even the euphoria of Saturday's 5-2 win will get him bragging of his exploits.

“It's been two weeks now, but I don't take it too seriously,” Dempsey said of his new association with the world of Twitter.

“You have to be careful of being on too much on a hop, because it's not always going to last. You have to stay grounded because there's a lot of ups and downs.

“I'm not going to get my feet off the ground because I know there's a lot of work still to be done.

“They seem to come in waves, goals, and I'm just trying to keep working hard and keep enjoying the moment while I can, because sooner or later, they [goals] dry up a little bit on you.

“Hopefully I can continue with this form as long as I can, because it's one of my favourite parts of the game, scoring goals.”

The USA international added: “There's been good service into the box and I sort of gamble. I take risks sometimes at the back post – hoping the ball's going to come to me and that happened with the first goal. The keeper makes a save and I end up hitting the ball in.

“It's just taking a chance. If it pays off, it does and if it doesn't at least you have a chance of something happening.”
