FULHAM have opened talks with Clint Dempsey over a new deal at Craven Cottage.

The 18-goal American still has another year to run on his contract in SW6, but boss Martin Jol wants to tie him to the club until 2014.

The Whites are already in negotiations with Andy Johnson and Danny Murphy , and Jol is confident he can keep hold of his best players.

He said: “At any club you want to keep your best players, and that is what we're trying to do.

“If Clint Dempsey was not here we probably wouldn't be in this position because he's scored the goals.

“We are talking to him. He's here for this year and next. We want to keep him here for the next three years.”
