FRASER Franks has left AFC Wimbledon in search of first-team football.

The 21-year-old was released by the Dons yesterday as part of a mass clearout at Kingsmeadow.

Franks failed to break into Terry Brown’s first-team and was sent out on loan to Hayes & Yeading and then Newport County earlier this year.

But upon his return found himself on the sidelines again and the former Brentford player will now look for regular action elsewhere.

Franks tweeted: “Need to play more games than I have done this year which is the reason for leaving. Looking forward to a new challenge now!

“Happy to walk away from the club with some great memories, some life-long friends and part of the h?storic promotion team.

“End of a era! Had a great two years at Wimbledon but time has come to an end. Thanks to all the fans for your support.”

The defender was handed a farewell game by Brown in the Dons’ last fixture of the season against Shrewsbury at the weekend.
