A DEBUT goal from Norwich City loan player Patrick Drmola (pictured) was not enough to save Hampton & Richmond Borough from another defeat on Saturday.

Just like last week, Mark Harper’s men were 2-0 down at half time at Welling, but could not replicate the astonishing second half fight-back which earned a 3-3 draw with Havant & Waterlooville last week.

The Hampton players still had their minds in the dressing room when Anthony Acheampong scored a close range header from a free-kick for the hosts after six minutes.

Welling’s Jack Obersteller almost headed the ball into his own net, but the Wings keeper reacted smartly and got a hand on it. Instead, Andy Pugh doubled their lead through a screamer 10 minutes from the break.

The hosts could have increased their lead further in the final minute of the first half had it not been for an excellent save by Craig Ross in the Hampton goal, who was ironically called back from a spell at hosts Welling to cover for injured Beavers keeper Matt Lovett.

The Beavers started the second half brightly, as Dave Tarpey’s effort rolled across the face of goal, Patrick Drmola made it 2-1 on 53 minutes. The youngster, on work experience from the Premiership side, placed his shot neatly in the bottom left corner.

Ross continued to pull off a handful of superb saves for Hampton, while at the other end, Tarpey squandered a golden opportunity to rescue a point deep into injury-time by blasting over the bar.
