MARTIN Fillo admits he's relieved to get the monkey off his back after bagging his first Brentford goal in last night's Capital One Cup win against Dagenham.

The on-loan Czech ace fired a blank during pre-season but got on the scoresheet with a fine left-footed strike on his full debut as the Bees booked their place in round two with a 3-2 win.

And the Viktoria Plzen winger insists he's delighted to get off the mark.

“It was a great moment for me,” he said. “I'm relieved to get my first goal – it will give me confidence. I really needed it because I didn't score in pre-season.

“This was one of the hardest pre-seasons I have had and I'm just glad I survived it.

“It was important that I didn't get injured too because I have really had to prove myself.

“It has been so far so good here [at Brentford]. They have a strong squad, they play great football and it's a really high level. They love their football here.

“I'm quite surprised with the level of football – in a good way – but I didn't expect it to be so big here.”

Fillo shone in a central role against the Daggers but admits he's under no illusions he faces a fight to keep his spot to face Sheffield United on Saturday.

He added: “I don't know whether I will start – we have so many options.

“I think if we win against Sheffield United we're going to have a good start to the season, so it will be a big game. I cant wait for it.”
