Hounslow District Wheelers will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a special 75-mile ride next month.

It will be run on June 29 to mark the club's founding in 1933, but the route is not yet confirmed. Rob Gilmour will go into the race on top form after producing a scintillating personal best of 20:53 mins over 10 miles in the Crabswood CC 10 on Saturday.

In doing so, he finished third overall and shaved 15 seconds off the Hounslow club's Veterans' 10 record, beating the mark of 20:50 set by Paul Holdsworth.

Gilmour had clocked 20:54 on the same course last year and knew a big effort would put the record within reach, but had done no special short distance training in the run-up.

Two other Hounslow members took part in the race, with Jo Wells finishing in 23:49 and Jill Bartlett in 24:38.

Meanwhile,Hounslow took the trophy the following day in their annual Interclub 25 with Twickenham CC and Weybridge Wheelers.

Jill Bartlett, David George and Neil Holdsworth landed the prize by virtue of being the best team of three on handicap, although Paul Holdsworth led in actual times with 56:58, while Gilmour was third (58:47) and Paul Innes fifth (1:01.49).
