This summer will certainly be one Hounslow & Heston Rifle Club member Sheree Cox does not forget in a hurry.

In July, the 22 year old will be competing in the Commonwealth Games following her selection for the England team last month, and the following month, she will be getting married.

The Games won't part her from her betrothed either – the man she's marrying is fellow international shooter David Phelps, who will be competing for Wales in Glasgow.

In her sights: Sheree Cox in action

It will be the second time Cox has featured at the Commonwealths, having shot for England at Delhi in 2010 while still a teenager.

But while she will be looking for her first Commonwealth medal, her husband already has first dibs on best spot in the trophy cabinet, having won gold in the 50m rifle prone singles and bronze in the pairs at Melbourne in 2006.

Cox was last weekend in Pilzen, in the Czech Republic, for an international tournament which was used by England as an official Commonwealth Games warm up event.

Striking a pose: Sheree Cox

Dad Gary Cox said: “The world's best attend these events, including Olympic and world champions who are full time, fully-funded professionals, whereas our lot have to work part time jobs to be able to afford training between official training camps, which is at their own cost and very costly.

“They have little chance when you take that into account, but Sheree still shot very well in Pilzen, just a fraction below her personal best. But the time to peak is July in Glasgow, when all the world's best, like the Russians and Americans, won't be there.”

Although raised in Sunbury, and having been a member of the Hounslow club since the age of 13, Cox now spends most of her time living and training in Cardiff. Anyone who can help out with sponsorship or funding should email garycox.athome@gmail.com .
