There is now less than a week to go before west London athletes take centre stage in Glasgow for the opening of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Rod Stewart, Susan Boyle and Kylie Minogue are among the musical stars to perform at Celtic Park when the festival of sport begins with a bang at Celtic Park on Wednesday (July 23).

It promises to be a sensational summer of sport and has a lot to live up to after the success of Manchester 2002 - the last time the Games came to the UK.

Australia topped the medals table with an incredible 82 golds, six of which were won by swimmer Ian Thorpe, with England second on 52 and Canada third.
