RORY Clegg admits even winning the Churchill Cup with England Saxons tomorrow would not top lifting the Amlin Challenge Cup with Harlequins last month.

Although Clegg was an unused replacement in Quins' final victory over Stade Francais, he played a key role in helping them through the pool stages, then came on for the injured Nick Evans in the thrilling semi-final win in Munster.

And the 21-year-old fly-half will be looking to add another winners' medal to his collection when the Saxons look to retain the Churchill Cup against Canada at Worcester.

The former Newcastle Falcon has already impressed in the competition, with a 100 per cent kicking record from 16 conversions and two penalties in the games against USA and Tonga.

He said: “We worked so long and hard at Quins during the season for that Amlin Cup, which is definitely the highlight of my season so far.

“It would be hard to top that really – but it would be quite fantastic to win another final with the Saxons.

“I wasn’t even expecting to make the Saxons squad, so I’ve been really pleased to get in and have a few starts already.”

Clegg also hopes helping England to victory will help further his cause at Quins, where he plays second fiddle to former All Black Evans.

He added: “I’ve been happy with my performances so far, so hopefully I can help put one over Canada in the final.

“I’m looking to perform at every opportunity and I’ll keep putting my claim forward with Harlequins - but whether they choose me or not is up to them.”

Meanwhile, Quins, have announced four pre-season friendlies, starting with a trip to France to take on Castres Olympique on Thursday, August 11.

Quins then return home to host Esher on Tuesday, August 16, and Nottingham on Friday, August 19, before packing their bags again for a trip to Belfast to face Ulster on Friday, August 26.
