CHELSEA have no intention of selling David Luiz to Barcelona for any price.

The word from Washington, where the team is currently based for it's USA pre-season commitments, is that any offers for Luiz, Juan Mata or any other first team player will be declined.

Blues have recently been openly courting Wayne Rooney, himself identified by current club Manchester United as a man not for sale, are expected to be on the receiving end of similar interest via a likely major bid for David Luiz from the Camp Nou.

Barcelona have been far from subtle in their pursuit of the Brazilian and have stepped up their pursuit in recent days by firming up their interest.

Chelsea have long been clear that they see the charismatic defender as the future of the club, both on and off the pitch: and he has already established himself as one of Stamford Bridge's dressing room leaders.

The 26-year-old missed Wednesday night's final of the International Champions Cup exhibition tournament in Miami – where blues lost 3-1 to Carlo Ancelotti's Real Madrid.

Also missing was Juan Mata – also the subject of speculation linking him with a number of top clubs.

Chelsea are expected to rebuff any offers received for the Spaniard.

Speaking after the defeat to Real Madrid, Blues boss Jose Mourinho said there were positives to take from the pre-season campaign, but insisted it was only a dress rehearsal for the real thing – due to start in a little over a week.

“As I said last week, we had five victories in pre-season and zero points,” said the Portuguese. “Now we have five victories and one defeat, we still have zero points, it's not a drama.

“They (Real Madrid) play in La Liga, we play in the Premier League. If we meet them in the Champions League and lose it's a different story, but a summer tournament is a summer tournament.”

Blues finish their pre-season with a Saturday night friendly against AS Roma in Washington.

They then have a week to prepare for next Sunday's Premier League opener at home to Hull City.
