FRANK Lampard has called on Chelsea to draw on the spirit of Barcelona and bring the Champions League trophy to Stamford Bridge for the first time in the club's history.

Lampard will lead out the side in the Allianz Arena tomorrow night (Saturday) as the Blues look to capture the one trophy that has so far eluded them under the ownership of Roman Abramovich.

The 33-year-old is a veteran of the 2008 Chelsea team defeated by Manchester United in a dramatic penalty shootout at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

Captain John Terry missed a spot-kick on that rainy night in Russia but will have no chance for redemption after being sent off in the semi-final second leg in Barcelona.

Terry’s dismissal forced Chelsea into a backs-to-the-wall performance for almost an hour against the holders, but they hung on to set up the impending clash with Bayern.

Stand-in skipper Lampard believes the Blues will need to show the same heart and belief they displayed in the Nou Camp if they are to make history in Munich.

“If we have the same spirit we showed in Barcelona I think we have the ability and individuals to win the game,” said Lampard.

“For Chelsea it would be the club’s greatest achievement. We’ve got four of our best performers out so it’d be a huge achievement. It will be one of my proudest moments [to captain the team]. I will try and be vocal, try and play by example.

“I know the players, I’ve been here long enough and I feel the pride of it. You try and take on the responsibility of trying to lead but we’ve got leaders. The occasion will bring out the big boys to lead the team.”

Having finished outside the top four in the Premier League, the Blues must win in Munich to secure Champions League football for next season.

Lampard acknowledges the club has had a below-par domestic campaign but is relishing the chance to grab the one medal missing from his personal collection in Germany.

“It would be the full set,” admitted Lampard. “Even if we don’t win it I’ll have no regrets looking back. I’m very pleased and proud of the career I’ve had.

"Considering the season we’ve had, we weren’t fancied to get this far. We always knew as a group that we had the quality.

“We knew we were better and it took a big effort from everyone at the club to improve. I’m back playing more regularly and I’m enjoying my football again.”

The suspended Terry will be joined in the stands by Branislav Ivanovic and midfield duo Raul Meireles and Ramires after they were booked in Barcelona.
