NIALL McGinn hopes his spell at Brentford can earn him a new deal at Celtic.

The on-loan winger is in the final year of his contract with the SPL giants, although there is a further year's option.

McGinn admits he hasn't even spoken to Hoops boss Neil Lennon since his switch south of the border, but would love to add to his 38 appearances at Celtic Park given the chance.

He said: “In my first year under Tony Mowbray I played a lot of football but then I got injured, which was frustrating.

"I came back and had a run of games but a few new signings came in. I didn't want my career to hinder, so I thought it was best to go out and get games.

"I'm not looking too far ahead. I just want to play football and get back to where I have been. I would love to go back to Celtic but I don't know what's round the corner.”

Brentford fought off a string of clubs for the 24-year-old's signature.

And the Northern Irishman, who was called up to the squad for next week's Euro 2012 qualifier with Faroe Islands, hopes he can cement his place in the international set-up following his move to TW8.

He added: “It's always nice to be in the international squad. Nigel Worthington wants me to play week in, week out.

"I needed to play football. I had a few different options but Brentford are a team on the up pushing for promotion. I'm just concentrating on getting my career back on track.”
