TIDEWAY Scullers' Alan Campbell puts in a sensational performance to storm into the semi-final of the London 2012 men's single skulls at Eton Dorney this morning.

Campbell, who rows for the Chiswick-based Scullers, finished fifth in the same event in Beijing four year ago, and is looking a good bet to improve on that display this time around.

The Northern Irishman time was two seconds quicker than New Zealand's Mahe Drysdale, the favourite for gold, in the first heat of the quarter-finals.

Drysdale, who also lists Tideway Scullers as his London-based club, will go head to head again with Campbell in tomorrow morning's semi-final.

Campbell said: “It has been very hard in the past to go to big events, and feel that I’ve not been able to give my best. Here I feel on top form and I’m really enjoying it.

“Most people have been able to get tickets, so the stands are full every day, and the support is fantastic. I guess being able to get tickets here now would be a Willy Wonka moment!”
