DAVID Button reckons Saturday's success against Sheffield United shows Brentford will be serious promotion contenders.

The Bees blunted the Blades away with a scintillating performance at Griffin Park, with Will Grigg's brace and a fine Adam Forshaw strike sealing a 3-1 win.

And former Charlton keeper Button believes the manner of the victory has shown Uwe Rosler's side are a force to be reckoned with.

“It was a great win,” he said. “To have a test this early in the season is difficult, but we've come through and shown where we are. Things are looking good.

“They're a big club and are going to be up there again this season, so to put in a performance like that was pleasing for everyone.”

Brentford will hope to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they travel to Gillingham at the weekend.

The Gills, managed by ex-Bee Martin Allen, have lost all three games so far and are yet to find the net.

However, the Bees won just seven times away from home last season, and Button admits it's something that needs to be addressed.

He added: “It will be a tough game on the road. The gaffer's highlighted that's an area we need to improve from last season because we've got a great home record.”
