DONS boss Terry Brown is close to reaching an agreement to keep star striker Jack Midson at the club.

The former Oxford United frontman took his first season with the Dons by storm, smashing 20 goals to finish joint top scorer in League Two.

Midson’s exploits did not go unnoticed and Rotherham United manager Steve Evans tabled a six-figure bid for the Dons hotshot earlier this month.

But Brown rebuffed the Millers’ advances and he has told the Chronicle that he is nearing an agreement to hold onto his prize-asset for next term.

“We’re a lot nearer a settlement with Jack now than we were a couple of weeks ago,” said Brown.

“From Jack’s point of view it’s understandable, he’s had a fantastic year. We want to sign a new contract with him and I don’t think we’re a million miles away from tying that up.”

Bristol Rovers were also understood to be keen on the AFC Wimbledon striker, although Midson has expressed a desire to stay at Kingsmeadow.
