AFC WIMBLEDON could have a fight on their hands to keep star striker Jack Midson at the club next season, according to boss Terry Brown.

The 28-year-old former Oxford United striker has impressed this term, racing to the top of the Dons scoring charts with 20 goals in 51 appearances.

Midson has been the subject of reported interest from Paolo Di Canio’s League Two champions Swindon and will have no shortage of suitors this summer.

The forward has admitted his agent has informed him of interest from other clubs and wants his future sorted out sooner rather than later.

And Brown admitted he may struggle to retain the striker having experienced a similar situation with Danny Kedwell during last summer’s window.

“Jack’s had a fantastic year,” he said. “It’s going to be difficult to hold onto some of our best players because we’ve got three or four who people will possibly come in with bids for.

“Players don’t want to know about consolidation, Jack Midson wants to know can he take Wimbledon to League One - if you can convince them that, then maybe they will stay.

“Our squad was absolutely decimated last year. We knew we’d lost Danny Kedwell and Steven Gregory, Kaid [Mohamed] was never really our player. You put them three in our side now and we’re better than we were. We’ve got to try and hold onto our best players.

“If a realistic bid came in, like say in Danny’s case where it’s his hometown club and they’ve offered him three years, you can’t keep him. You’re keeping an unhappy player.

“The board are brilliant, they’ve always backed me but sometimes you have to be realistic, people move on.”
