TERRY Brown wants two more pieces to complete his AFC Wimbledon jigsaw - assuming he lands former Brentford defender Brett Johnson.

Utility man Johnson played 10 games for Andy Scott’s League Two champions last season, mainly deputising at left-back.

But Dons boss Brown, who once signed Johnson for Aldershot, sees the former Ashford Town and Northampton man as a centre-back.

A deal for the 23-year-old has been in the pipeline for more than a week now, but is not expected to go through for another month because he is due to receive four weeks wages from the PFA.

Brown said: "There’s not many holes that need filling now. My biggest need is a centre-back, and I hope that will be Brett Johnson.

"I hope that deal will go through soon. Brett has been training with us, but I imagine he will have a few offers on the table. I also want a big front man to complement the talents of Jon Main, Danny Kedwell and Luke Moore, but that may take longer to find.

"And the final piece in the jigsaw would be a promising young keeper to provide back-up for James Pullen.

"We have handed professional forms to one of our own in Jack Turner, but you wouldn’t want to throw a 17-year-old keeper into the heat of the battle at Luton or Oxford."

Brown completed two more signings this week when the long-protracted chases for midfielders Ricky Wellard and Steve Gregory came to a conclusion.

The Dons boss has been chasing Ashford Town star Wellard for most of the summer, and has been negotiating with Hayes & Yeading for Gregory for weeks.

An agreement with Ashford was finally reached, and then with Hayes & Yeading when a tribunal was looming.

Brown added: "I feel we’ve got what we wanted, two very talented young players, while Ashford and Hayes & Yeading have got what they feel the players are worth, as well as a good sell-on fee."

Brown will play two different teams, giving each 45 minutes, in AFC’s first pre-season friendly, against Wycombe Wanderers next Saturday.
