BRENTFORD'S bid to bring Jordan Rhodes back to west London took a blow as Ipswich revealed they turned down an offer from an unnamed club for the young striker.

Bees boss Andy Scott is keen for the 19-year-old to return to Griffin Park after a successful loan spell last year.

But Rhodes, who scored seven goals in 14 games with Scott's side, has set his sights on the first team at Portman Road, and has impressed Roy Keane during pre-season.

Tractor Boys manager Keane said: "When I took over I received a lot of phone calls about him, and we did turn down one offer, but he's in the group on merit.

"There's been talk about [bringing in] strikers here, but if he keeps putting the ball in the back of the net that'll do for me."
