CHARLIE MacDonald hopes strugglers Southend stay up – but is out to heap more misery on them tonight.

The Brentford striker returns to Roots Hall for the first time since leaving the cash-strapped Shrimpers for TW8 at the beginning of last season.

MacDonald made just 15 starts for the Essex boys, scoring five goals, in a disappointing one-year spell, but has already bagged 34 goals for his new club in less than two seasons.

And while Andy Scott 's side are hoping to break into the top 10, Steve Tilson's team are staring relegation in the face.

"They're in a bad situation, both on the pitch and financially," said MacDonald, who's scored four goals in as many games.

"I still have a few friends there and don't like to see them struggling.

"I wish them all the best after tomorrow night, but I've got to look after number one now. Brentford are my priority."
