BRENTFORD new-boy Will Grigg has revealed he snubbed interest from the Championship to move to Griffin Park.
The 22-year-old joined the Bees earlier this month after his contract at League One rivals Walsall expired.
Premier League Aston Villa were reported to be keeping an eye on the Solihull-born striker as he smashed 20 goals for the Saddlers last season.
But Grigg turned his back at the chance to move to a higher level in favour of a promotion push in TW8.
He said: "There was quite a bit of interest over the summer, especially with me being out of contract.
“There were teams from the Championship sniffing about, but you have to assess the situation and realise what's best for your career.
“At my age I think I've got to be at a club where I'm playing regularly and hopefully I can do that here.
“I didn't want to make too big a jump too soon. I'm happy I made the right choice.”
Grigg finished joint-third in the League One scoring charts last campaign – just a goal behind Brentford team-mate Clayton Donaldson .
And the frontman hopes to hit the ground running when the new season gets underway at Port Vale on August 3.
“I'll be looking to get my first goal as soon as possible and go from there,” he added.
“I don't like setting myself targets, but if I can get to double figures and then push on.”
