BRENTFORD striker Carl Cort faces a race against time to be fit for the start of the new season.

The 32-year-old has been struggling with a knock to his Achilles, and will not be ready until the curtain-raiser at Carlisle on August 7 at the earliest.

However, there is better news for strike partner Charlie MacDonald , who returned to training yesterday.

Last season's top scorer tightened his groin at Tonbridge Angels two weeks ago, but should be fit to play a part against Crystal Palace on Friday.
