SAM Saunders reckons Brentford have laid the foundations for a successful promotion push next season.

The Bees ended their first year under new boss Uwe Rosler with a win at Chesterfield last week to finish the campaign in ninth place.

And Saunders, who has had his best haul in a red and white shirt with 12 goals, believes the signs are good for next season as they bid to gain promotion to the Championship.

He said: “We've been in the top 10 for the whole season but just fell a bit short. There's plenty of positives to take and I think we've laid the foundations for next year.

“The gaffer's style has been cemented into the team now, and with a few additions hopefully we can challenge.

“We've lacked a little bit of experience, so hopefully the gaffer can bring some in over the summer because we've got some good, young players.

“If we improve by five or 10 per cent we can have a good go. That's the reason why I signed because I want to push on and be part of a team challenging.”
