KEVIN O’Connor wants to celebrate signing a two-year contract extension by lifting the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Wembley.

We exclusively revealed this week that the Bees captain was close to putting pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at Griffin Park until 2013.

O’Connor has suffered cup final heartache twice before - when the Bees lost to Port Vale in the LDV Vans in 2001, and the play-off defeat to Stoke at the Millennium Stadium the following year.

But King Kev is determined to make it third time lucky, providing Brentford can overcome Exeter City in a two-legged area final in the new year.

He said: "We’re two games away from Wembley, so it’s a massive incentive for us. I would love to have that on my CV. I was injured for the LDV final which was a little bit gutting. I was in and around the squad but pulled my hamstring a week before.

"I came on as sub against Stoke the following year, but that day really hurt because we had done so well that season.

"It’s heartbreaking to get so close and fall at the final hurdle, but we’ve got the chance to rectify that this year."
