BRENTFORD midfielder Jonathan Douglas is set to undergo surgery in a bid to clear up a niggling knee injury.

The Irishman was a virtual ever-present for the Bees last season, making 53 appearances as they missed out on promotion to the Championship.

However, Douglas was dogged by a knee problem towards the end of the campaign, which meant he couldn't even train in between games.

And the 31-year-old is due to go under the knife later this month to fix the injury ahead of the new season.

But Scott Barron is on course to be ready to join in full training with his team-mates when they return later this month following a hip op.

Boss Uwe Rosler said: “Everybody is expected to be fit, except Jonathan Douglas.

“Jonathan has been fantastic for us and has been putting his body on the line for the last two months.

“He hasn't even trained and has been playing through the pain barrier.

“He needs minor surgery to clear up the problem, but he won't be ready in time for the start of pre-season training.”
