MARCUS Bean used to watch Jamaica in the World Cup – now the Brentford star plans to swap a place in the stands for a spot in the Reggae Boyz' midfield.

The 26-year-old received his first-ever international call-up this week for the friendly with Honduras.

Hammersmith-born Bean qualifies for Jamaica through his parents, and even went to the World Cup in France in 98 to cheer them on.

But now the midfielder has set his sights on making the squad for Brazil 2014.

He said: “It was a great to get the call from the manager. My mum and dad were both born over there so it was a very proud moment for the whole family.

“It was a bit of a shock. I had heard they were trying to recruit more English-based players and my good form for Brentford has managed to get me a look-in.

“I'm gutted to be missing Brentford games but at this age you can't turn down the opportunity to play international football.

“The World Cup is in Brazil in three years time and it would be a dream to play in it.

"I went to France 98 with my family. We watched them against Croatia, and although we lost, the atmosphere was unbelievable.”
