JACK Bonham insists he will bounce back from his Watford nightmare following his summer move to Brentford.

The 19-year-old's mistake on the final day of the campaign against Leeds blew the Hornets' automatic promotion hopes.

Needing just a goal to seal their place in the Premier League, the debutant allowed Ross McCormack's chip to end up in the back of the net as Watford went on to lose 2-1.

But Bonham has vowed to erase the bad memories as he embarks on a new chapter at Griffin Park following his Vicarage Road exit.

He said: “I hadn't played for two or three months before the Leeds game, so I certainly wasn't expecting it.

“I didn't know at that point that I was getting released either, contrary to speculation.

“It was a great experience to be involved, even though it didn't go that well. You can only grow from something like that.

“You can learn a lot from it and I think it's made me mentally tougher for what lies ahead.”

Bonham penned a two-year deal in TW8 after impressing on trial at the back end of the season.

And with Richard Lee still sidelined through injury, the youngster hopes to cement his place as number two behind Simon Moore .

“With Rich out it gives me a chance to impress and keep my spot as number two,” he added.

"I want to try and push Simon as it's great to have competition for places.”
