BRENTFORD are considering taking a serious case to the FA following Saturday’s appalling injury to Damian Spencer.

Spencer was taken to hospital after having his cheekbone smashed by Darlington’s Adam White barely two minutes into Saturday’s game, earning White a straight red card.

Manager Andy Scott said after the match it initially looked worse than the challenge which fractured Nathan Elder’s cheekbone and eye socket at Rotherham in March.

Amazingly, the FA did nothing about the Elder incident. But Brentford are determined not to let them turn a blind eye again this time.

Chief executive David Heath said: "The sound the injury made was like a cricket bat hitting a cricket ball, it was sickening.

"If it had happened that night in Darlington High Street, Adam White would be going down for ABH.

"He will serve his ban and then could be back playing before long, while Damian Spencer is out of contract and could be without a livelihood.

"When Nathan Elder went into hospital, he was asked how many blokes beat him up - that’s how bad it was. And Damian’s is supposed to be worse!

"We will see what his specialist says first, but we certainly want to make a case to the FA to get their house in order as this sort of thing is happening too much at the moment."

Meanwhile, fellow Brentford striker Charlie MacDonald could be back sooner than expected.

Rumours surfaced this week that MacDonald, who dislocated his shoulder against Gillingham in March, will not kick a ball again until October.

But Heath added: "Charlie’s had an operation which was a complete success, and we may well see him back for the start of next season."
