TWO Brentford fans have raised more than £4,000 for charity in just two weeks by cycling from Wembley Stadium to Amsterdam.

Mark Burridge and Richard Emment took part in the Football League's Prostate Cancer UK Cycle challenge, alongside representatives from clubs across the country.

Emment was, in fact, wearing the orange jersey at the Wembley starting line as Team Brentford were the pre-event leading fundraisers, and he donned a Ruud Gullitt wig to go with the top.

Burridge said: “On the first day we cycled 110 miles after encountering wrong directions early on, then Richard had a nasty accident when a cyclist in Ilford stopped without warning and his chain broke, needing over an hour of repairs. But he was soon off to catch up the field, and the Brentford representatives still made the gruelling first day in ample time.

“Although a regular cyclist for over a year, Richard had never cycled further than 50 miles in a day, while I have not been on a bike since 2000. Needless to say, we both felt the pain of the first part of the journey for the rest of the evening. The 60 mile journey along the stunning west coastline the next morning to Amsterdam was, by comparison, easy and stress free.

“We are very grateful to Brentford fans who really got behind what we were doing, with former and current players contributing to the fund, and more is is expected to come in over the next week to help the final figure to near £5,000, which is amazing.

“Prostate Cancer is to become the most common form of male cancer within a decade, so the more that goes to generate education and awareness of early detection, the more lives will be saved. It was a great challenge and adventure that we would love to repeat next year.”
