MICKEY Spillane wants to stay at Brentford and fight for his place.

The former Norwich City defender has made just one substitute appearance since Nicky Forster took over from Andy Scott last month.

Spillane has watched from the sidelines as Robbie Neilson and Nathan Byrne have been brought in on loan, while Kevin O'Connor has also been preferred to the Irishman at right-back.

But the 21-year-old insists he has no intention of leaving Griffin Park .

He said: "I want to stay at Brentford and fight for my place.

"Robbie and Kev have done well and the team have been winning until recently so I've got to be patient.

"I am going to be there biting at their heels so if they slip up hopefully I get a chance to show what I can do."
