CRAIG Woodman has warned Everton's Jake Bidwell he faces a fight for the left-back spot at Griffin Park.

The on-loan defender made his first Brentford start in last week's Johnstone's Paints Trophy defeat to Barnet, and followed it up with a man of the match display against Hartlepool on Saturday.

Bidwell is Everton's youngest ever player in Europe, and has played for England at every level from U16 to U19.

But those glittering stats mean nothing to Woodman, who has seen off all pretenders to his position since joining from Wycombe two years ago.

He said: “The manager likes to have two of three options in each position, which is why Blair Adams came in before Jake, and will make changes when he wants to be more attacking.

“It keeps you on your toes and means you have to do your best when you have the shirt – and I won't be giving it up without a fight.

“Jake has proved to be a good addition to the squad, as we have already seen with Harlee, who has looked solid and has all the right attributes.”
